Department Overview

Welcome to the Department of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, Faculty of Sciences, BIUST. The hub for 21st century science where biology plays a key role in tackling major global challenges. To unleash its full potential for the benefit of society, biology needs intelligent, competent and creative scientists.

The first industrial revolution of the 19th century and the second technological revolution in computers/electronics in the 20th century, have brought a valid conviction that biotechnology is the third technological revolution of the 21st century. Biotechnology is a multidisciplinary science that applies the principles of biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, medicine, mathematics, computer science and emerging technologies such as stem cell biology and research to solve problems in health, agriculture, environment, and industry.
