About EES
The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences provides teaching, research and learning in the following areas: climatology, hydrology, ecology, pedology, geology, geospatial analysis, and geophysics. The department is well-equipped to give an integrated earth systems approach to comprehending globalization, diversity, and sustainability due to its interdisciplinary orientation. Its aim is to be a catalyst for economic, cultural, social, educational, technological, and geoscientific development in Botswana and the region. All BIUST students receive a basic education in geosciences from the Department of Earth and Environmental Science, as well as specialized education from the Department of Geology (BSc, MSc, and PhD degrees) and Earth and Environmental Sciences (BSc, MSc and PhD degrees).
In addition, the department is responsible for undertaking applied and basic research that contributes to a better understanding of the nature of earth sciences in Botswana, as well as a broader awareness of the integrated nature of earth systems for the entire planet. Furthermore, the department takes seriously its role to serve Botswana’s citizens by responding to information requests within the faculty’s areas of competence and using informal educational opportunities.
The Department currently has 14 faculty staff (including 2 visiting professors) and 8 full-time technicians and offers BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in Geology, Earth and Environmental Sciences.
